I was discussing history related issues with a couple of friends a while ago, and thought, wouldn't it be great if we have time machines in which you can click on a button, and bang, you are in 1943 and living the WWII? No speculations, no guessing. It is just you are living history.
Also, it will ease up historians' lives. Actually, documenting historians will vanish, because we wont need them anymore. So, the following idea crossed my mind. What if we are able to archive the whole internet daily? This will work as a time machine!!!! Imagine this, 50 years from now, someone is sitting and wondering how the third Iraqi war started. What does he do? he logs on the internet archive (the time machine), sets the time to March 2003, hits the button. And searches google for the "war on iraq". It will be the exact thing as if he was living today among us.
The amazing thing is, this time machine DO EXIST!!!! and it is called, the WayBack. Please spend a couple of mins and navigate to: www.webarchive.org
The shocking thing is, that the backup servers for this TIME MACHINE IS IN ALEXANDRIA BIBLIOTICA, ALEX, EGYPT. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
P.S. I did the Iraqi war thing on this site, it is AMAZING.....
